Gargoyles: Reawakening – Episode Review Continued

Grab your pitchforks and torches, because it’s time to jump back into the monster action! We’ll learn more about Coldstone, as well as the other antagonists. Goliath and the clan reach a turning point in their lives as they find their purpose.

This is the last episode of season 1, which means it has to wrap up the season in a satisfying way. As you watch this ep and read the review, imagine what it would be like if we never saw another Gargoyles ep. Imagine if there was only one season. It’s okay if you need a drink afterward.

Gargoyles: Reawakening – Episode Review

The Grimorum Arcanorum’s pages resurface in a necromancy ceremony courtesy of our favorite genocidal gargoyle Demona, and the ever-experimenting trickster David Xanatos. It’s Dr Frankenstein meets Sauron. They reanimate a gargoyle from Goliath’s past. How will this “abomination” that’s lost its purpose help Goliath find meaning in life?

This is the last episode of season 1. It’s one of the best!

Gargoyles: Her Brother’s Keeper – Episode Review Continued

Ready to enjoy some irony? It’s served fresh every day, courtesy of David Xanatos. Today, he’s arranged it so his “enemies” the clan and the police have to protect him. It’s all in the name of getting what he wants: Derek Maza, Elisa’s brother.

Gargoyles: Her Brother’s Keeper – Episode Review

What happens when one of the protagonists annoys an antagonist who’s minding his own business for once in his life? You got it: the antagonist acts. When Elisa pesters Xanatos, he makes it a Maza-family affair by targeting her brother. Unlike other villains who want to kill the protags’ families, Xanatos wants to hire Derek Maza as a bodyguard and chopper pilot. It’s possible David intended to do this even before Elisa began, well, stalking him, but I doubt it.

To make things more fun, Hyena and Jackal are trying to kill Xanatos. Never a dull moment here!

Gargoyles: Long Way To Morning – Episode Review Continued

There’s still time in the night. Demona is hot on the tails of her ex boyfriend and her ex mentor/clan leader. How much of this is about gaining control of the clan, and how much is this about wanting revenge on Goliath?

In the meantime, we have to finish Hudson’s flashback.

Did Demona abandon her efforts to convert the clan to her side? Not a chance. This time she’s upped the ante, putting Elisa’s life in the balance. With that kind of leverage, Demona can move mountains, or in this case Goliath. She didn’t bargain on Hudson coming along, though. Will old age and cunning win out against youth and strength? And what about Demona? How’s she handling the clan “betraying” her?

Gargoyles: The Edge – Episode Review Continued

We’re back, on The Edge of the second half! Aren’t getting soft, are you? The clan is on a collision course with the Steel Clan. It’s no repeat of Awakening, either. This is a new breed of opponent.

Both protagonists and antagonists will learn something about themselves in this ep. Know thyself.

Gargoyles: The Edge – Episode Review

Finally, THE EDGE! It’s always been one of my fave eps, alongside Eye of the Beholder, Vows, and The Gathering parts 1 and 2.

Now that everyone’s settled in their homes – new and old – we can get back to business. Rather, David Xanatos can. He dropped into his old routine without a pause, but he’s not as confident as he appears. Is he losing his edge? It’ll take more than a new Corvette to resolve this doubt. In typical Xanatos fashion, he has a plan that’ll kill two birds, or possibly gargoyles, with one stone. Or robot. Gotta love those Xanatos Gambits!

We meet an upgraded version of the Steel Clan. Will the havoc they’re wreaking through the city put the gargoyles in harm’s way? Don’t worry, Xanatos has a good reason for his maneuvers.
